A donde vamos...
This tour takes you to two of the most incredible places in Costa Rica - the Osa Peninsula and the Highland Cloud Forests of the Talamanca Mountains. Along the way we will make stops in the Tropical Dry Forest along the Tarcoles River and the Paramo on top of Cerro de la Muerte.
National Geographic calls the Osa Peninsula “the most biologically intense place on earth” and fully 2.5% of all species of plants and animals can be found here. We will be visiting the world famous Corcovado National Park from our eco lodge in the remote town of Drake Bay.
The Highland Cloud Forests of the Savegre Valley are home to the largest population of Resplendent Quetzals in Costa Rica. These magnificent birds are believed to have helped inspire the Aztec Feathered Serpent God Quetzalcoatl because the long back coverts streaming behind a flying male looks like a brilliant green snake flying through the air. We will look for Quetzals as well as dozens of other highland endemics, especially in the Paramo habitat above the timberline on Cerro de la Muerte.
This tour will be focused on birding, but there will also be plenty of chances to see sloths, monkeys, frogs, snakes, invertebrates, and much more! Your expert trip leaders Paul & Amanda are always available for extra early morning bird walks or impromptu night hikes. Seeing 300+ species of birds would not be unexpected.
