Costa Rica Birding Tour

February 27 - March 6, 2024

9 Days         4 Regions

This birding tour begins in the little-visited Turrialba region - over 3/4 of all the birds in Costa Rica can be found in this small area! We will visit Irazu Volcano in search of highland endemics, and the Guayabo National Monument looking for fantastic mixed flocks of tropical songbirds.

Next we explore the Caribbean Foothills, a region that gets a staggering 20+ feet of rain each year. The incredible amount of rain and lush vegetation makes this area a great place for birds like tanagers, as well as frogs, and snakes!

From here we travel to the Southern Highlands in search of the Resplendent Quetzal, absurd numbers of hummingbirds, and the many highland endemics that call these Cloud Forests home.

We end our adventure in the Central Pacific, where the dry forest to the north transitions to the wet forest of the south, and birds from both regions can be found together. We will explore Carara National Park and take a boat ride on the Tarcoles River to look for mangrove endemics and wading birds.
